The Grand Arrival: Hummer EV 'Choppa' at a Colorado Springs Wedding

The GMC Hummer EV — Springs Supercars' matte black beast, nicknamed 'Choppa' — is not a subtle vehicle. It weighs over 9,000 pounds, produces 1,000 horsepower from its three-motor e4WD electric drivetrain, and has a presence so commanding that it once caused a minor traffic backup simply by being parked on Nevada Avenue. For a wedding entrance at The Broadmoor, it was, Ryan decided, absolutely perfect.

Ryan had seen Springs Supercars at a charity event in September and chatted with John McMurray. When he described the venue — the gray stone of the Broadmoor, the mountain backdrop, 200 guests — John didn't hesitate. 'He said, "The Hummer. Matte black, mountain backdrop, grand entrance. Nothing else even comes close."'

The Entrance

John McMurray drove the Hummer EV to The Broadmoor himself, coordinated with the venue team for a reserved space at the main entrance, and had it positioned perfectly for the post-ceremony arrival. When Ryan and Sarah emerged from the ceremony, the Choppa was sitting there under the mountain sky — matte black, silent, massive. The guests broke into spontaneous applause.

'We drove it to dinner that night and then just kept going,' Sarah said. 'The Hummer is completely silent at low speed — no engine noise at all. It's this enormous machine moving through the city like a ghost. We drove up through the Garden of the Gods area in the dark and it was the most surreal, beautiful thing.' She paused. 'Also Ryan kept using the "Watts to Freedom" launch mode every time we hit a straight road, which is absolutely not what I expected on our wedding night.'
