Ute Pass — Highway 24 West
Into the Rockies

Highway 24 west through Ute Pass is the classic "into the mountains" drive from Colorado Springs — the road that locals take every weekend to reach the high country. From Manitou Springs, the highway climbs through a dramatic narrow canyon carved by Fountain Creek before cresting at Woodland Park (8,465 ft) and opening into the wide Ute Park plateau with Pikes Peak towering overhead. Clean, fast, fully paved, and spectacularly beautiful.

The Route

Colorado Springs → Manitou Springs → Ute Pass → Woodland Park — ~25 miles, 40 min, then extend as you like

01

Start: Old Colorado City / Manitou Springs

Begin on US-24 heading west through Old Colorado City — Colorado Springs' arts district. The strip of galleries, breweries, and restaurants on Colorado Ave is a great warm-up cruise before the pass.

02

Manitou Springs (Mile 5)

The charming Victorian spa town at the base of Pikes Peak. Mineral spring fountains dot the town. Worth a slow cruise through downtown before the canyon begins.

03

Ute Pass Canyon (Miles 5–15)

The highway narrows and climbs steeply through a canyon of red and grey granite. This is the best part of the drive — tight curves, rock walls close on both sides, and the roar of a supercar engine amplified by the canyon walls.

04

Woodland Park (Mile 25, 8,465 ft)

The pass crests and opens into a wide, forested plateau. Pikes Peak fills the view to the east. Woodland Park has great lunch spots — stop at Katie Macs for burgers before deciding how far to continue.

05

Extension Options

Continue west on HWY 24 to Hartsel and South Park (incredible open-range high plains driving), or pick up Rampart Range Road for a ridge-top return to Colorado Springs. The options multiply from Woodland Park.

Why Supercar Drivers Love It

Canyon acoustics amplify the exhaust note dramatically
Fast sweeping curves on the upper section
Year-round access — no seasonal closure
Natural gateway to Pikes Peak, Rampart Range, and Cripple Creek
Only 20 minutes from the Springs Supercars pickup location
